The role of fertilizers in agriculture
China is a country with a large population, and food production occupies an important position in the development of agricultural production. Usually the way to increase food production is to expand the area of arable land or increase the yield per unit area. According to China's national conditions, the potential to continue to expand the area of arable land is not large. Although China still has a lot of uncultivated land, most of them have problems of high investment and difficulty. This determines that China's grain production must be increased by increasing the yield per unit area.
Fertilization can not only improve soil fertility, but also an important measure to increase crop yield per unit area. Fertilizer is the most basic and most important material input in agricultural production. According to the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) statistics, chemical fertilizers account for about 40% to 60% of the total crop yield increase. China can feed 22% of the world's population with 7% of the world's arable land. It can be said that chemical fertilizers play a pivotal role.
